CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF QUOTED MANUFACTURING FIRMS IN NIGERIA

ABSTRACT The research investigated how corporate social responsibility affects Nigerian manufacturing businesses' financial performance that is publicly traded. The 21 manufacturing businesses quoted on the Nigeria Exchange Group as of December 31, 2023, make up the population of the ex post facto study design. Ten (10) manufacturing companies that were quoted were chosen as sampled firms utilizing the filtering sampling methodology. The manufacturing companies quoted on the Nigerian exchange group's annual reports provided the data that was used. The information covers a ten-year span, from 2014 to 2023. Using STATA 13.0 software, the study employed multiple regression modeling as an analytical tool. The study found that the health expenditure used, community development cost expenditure, and training cost expenditure of listed manufacturing businesses in Nigeria are all negatively impacted by social responsibility of corporations (CSR) in a negligible way. The report thus suggested, among other things, that at the annual general meeting, shareholders ought to insist that the management of their company have a well-functioning corporate social responsibility framework.
