TECHNOLOGICAL AND POLITICAL BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT: SUSTAINABLE FACTORS FOR THE PERFORMANCE OF SMALL AND MEDIUM SCALE ENTERPRISES (SMEs) IN KOGI STATE

  ABSTRACT
Modern business managers operate in a highly dynamic environment, where rapid and unpredictable changes significantly impact the performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This study primarily aims to assess the effect of the technological and political business environment on SME performance. The study adopted Primary data as a means of gathering information. This was achieved through the distribution of a well-structured questionnaire. The total population for the study was (938740) based on the registered SMEs with SMEDAN. A sample size of 400 was arrived at from the population using Slovins sample size technique. In order to elicit responds from respondents, 400 questionnaires were distributed to the managers of the various SMEs across the three senatorial district of Kogi state. 381 questionnaire were retrieved from respondents. The data obtained from the study were analyzed by the use of multiple regressions analysis. Findings indicated that technological and political factors have positive and significant effect on the sales performance of small and medium enterprises in Kogi state with (R2=0.960 <0.005). The study concluded that technological and political factors have significant effect on the sales performance of small and medium enterprises in Kogi state. The study recommended that integrating technology such as portable information devices, strong electronic networking and alternative energy sources into business operations can enhance efficiency and competitiveness. It also recommended that staying informed about political developments and adapting strategies accordingly can help SMEs navigate uncertainties and thrive in varying political contexts.
